Katarina Johnson-Thompson named in England’s Commonwealth Games roster

Reigning heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson leads a 63-athlete England team for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, though Keely Hodgkinson will miss the event.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson, the current Commonwealth heptathlon titleholder, has been selected for the 63-member England squad competing at next month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The event is scheduled from July 23 to August 2.

However, Olympic 800m gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson will not be participating. Hodgkinson previously withdrew from the UK Athletics Championships in June due to a minor muscle concern and has opted to prioritize the European Championships held in Birmingham this August.

Johnson-Thompson, who secured victory at the 2018 Gold Coast Games and the previous iteration of the event, will compete alongside Jade O’Dowda and newcomer Ellen Barber. The squad also features notable athletes such as Amy Hunt, Daryll Neita, and Imani-Lara Lansiquot, who aim to defend the 4x100m relay title. Zharnel Hughes returns to challenge for 200m gold, while high jumper Kimani Jack makes his debut after a strong outdoor season.
