Borno displaced residents begin homecoming from Yobe

Displaced persons from Borno State residing in Yobe have begun their journey home under a government-coordinated program providing free transport and security.

A repatriation process has started for internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently residing in Yobe State as they head back to Maiduguri, Borno State. The operation prioritizes the safety of women and children, who comprise the largest segment of the returning population.

Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the Security Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni, is leading the relocation efforts alongside the Director of Search and Rescue at SEMA and various security organizations. By Tuesday morning, families stationed at the Water Board site and the Roundabout area near Maiduguri Road departed Damaturu.

To ensure a smooth transition, the Yobe State Government supplied complimentary transport and armed security escorts. Officials confirmed that 1,295 people have successfully reached Maiduguri, with children under 14 representing the majority of this group. Security forces stationed along the travel route helped manage the process and reassured the returnees.

Registration continues for those still awaiting transit, with 547 individuals from 93 households already documented in Kasaisa village. Many of these displaced people have expressed eagerness to reconnect with their original communities. This initiative provides significant relief to affected families as they undergo the government-led reintegration process.
