Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State announced that the state has allocated N1.5 billion toward its mass wedding project, known as Auren Gata. The funds covered comprehensive medical screenings, dowries, furniture, and various household supplies for the participants.
During a ceremony at the Government House, the governor explained that each couple received a N100,000 dowry payment and an additional N100,000 grant intended to help them start small businesses. Beyond financial support, the administration provided essential home goods, including beds and mattresses, alongside food commodities to assist the couples as they start their new lives.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that this initiative fulfills a core campaign pledge made before the 2023 general elections. Before the ceremonies, participants underwent health checks, professional counseling, and training workshops organized by the Kano State Hisbah Board to prepare them for marital responsibilities.
The governor urged the new couples to prioritize patience, fairness, and mutual respect while following religious teachings. The initiative received praise from Katsina State Governor Umar Dikko-Radda and Islamic cleric Sheikh Kabir Gombe, who noted that such projects could help reduce youth unrest. The event was attended by various high-profile guests, including Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi and Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
