Kano Police Assure Residents Of Security Ahead Of Bye-Elections
The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security during Saturday’s bye-elections in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituencies.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori said security agencies in the state were working in synergy to ensure a peaceful, crisis-free exercise.
He noted that clear operational orders had been issued to officers deployed to each polling unit in the affected local government areas, with sufficient armed personnel mobilised to maintain security before, during, and after the polls.
Bakori urged law-abiding citizens to exercise their voting rights without fear, while calling on political parties and candidates to conduct themselves peacefully.
“We will maintain a visible presence at polling units to safeguard voters’ rights and prevent intimidation,” he said, warning that acts of thuggery, intimidation, or violence would not be tolerated.
He added that the police would provide a level playing field for all parties and prosecute anyone found violating electoral laws.
