The Kano State Pension Board has initiated legal proceedings to recoup N5,346,587.16 that was inadvertently sent to an incorrect account during a bulk disbursement via Jaiz Bank. Sunusi Aminu Rano, the board’s Director of Finance, stated on Saturday that the mistake happened during data entry when the beneficiary’s account number was mistyped, switching the final two digits from 83 to 38.
Upon identifying the transfer error, the board promptly alerted Jaiz Bank. However, the financial institution clarified that under standard banking regulations, a court order is mandatory to reverse the transaction. Rano confirmed that the board has already filed for this order, which is anticipated by Monday. The document will be submitted to the bank to facilitate the recovery of the funds.
Offering an apology for the oversight, the board emphasized its dedication to handling the recovery process with transparency and strict adherence to legal standards. They assured the public and affected pensioners that the situation is being managed according to all necessary regulatory protocols.
