Kano Official Allegedly Embezzled N308 Million Meant for State-wide Prayers

A Kano State official claims that former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo embezzled N308 million originally designated for community prayer sessions.

Sheikh Musa Falaki, the Kano State Governor’s Special Adviser on Tsangaya Education, has publicly accused former Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo of mismanaging N308 million. According to Falaki, these funds were purportedly gathered under the guise of paying Islamic scholars to conduct special prayers across the 44 local government areas in Kano.

During a broadcast on Hikima Radio, Falaki stated that the former Kano chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) reportedly collected N44 million monthly over a seven-month period for this initiative. Falaki and Sheikh Ibrahim Sheshi Maihula were allegedly designated as the coordinators for these prayers, yet both clerics claim they were never informed about the collection, nor did they receive any funds or facilitate the events.

The deception surfaced only when the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) summoned the two scholars for questioning. Upon reviewing the commission’s findings, they discovered that the total sum had reached N308 million. Falaki asserts that Gwarzo misappropriated the entire amount. This accusation is reportedly linked to a broader anti-corruption inquiry involving over N700 million in local government funds. As of now, Gwarzo has not provided a response to these allegations.
