A Kano State High Court has sentenced two men, Sagiru Lawan and Kabiru Yusuf (also known as Alaramma), to death for the murder of businessman Abba Aminu Yalwa.

The judgment was delivered on Thursday, October 16, 2025, by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji of High Court No. 15 in Kano. The court found the defendants guilty of killing Yalwa in July 2018 after luring him to Danbare area under the pretense of showing him a plot of land.

Investigations revealed that the deceased had previously given money to Sagiru Lawan but later requested a refund. Sagiru then arranged to meet Yalwa at Danbare, where he and Kabiru Alaramma strangled and stabbed him to death. Diamond age

The court found both men guilty of murder in violation of Section 221 (B) of the Penal Code, which prescribes the death penalty.

Justice Ma’aji subsequently sentenced Sagiru Lawan and Kabiru Alaramma to death by hanging.
