Julian Nagelsmann intends to remain as Germany manager following World Cup elimination

Following a shock penalty shootout loss to Paraguay in the 2026 World Cup round of 32, German coach Julian Nagelsmann has stated his commitment to keeping his position.

Julian Nagelsmann has declared his desire to remain as the head coach of Germany after his team was knocked out of the 2026 World Cup in the round of 32. The side suffered a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay at Boston Stadium on Monday after Jonathan Tah missed his crucial attempt.

Although Nagelsmann is under contract until the 2028 European Championships, this early departure will undoubtedly increase pressure on the 38-year-old. Speaking to ZDF, he stated that he does not intend to abandon his post, though he acknowledged that his future is ultimately dependent on the decisions of the German football federation (DFB).

Jurgen Klopp, who attended the match in Foxborough as a broadcaster, has been widely speculated as a potential successor. However, the former Liverpool manager declined to comment on the matter, noting that it was not the appropriate time for such discussions. Midfielder Nadiem Amiri expressed deep disappointment over the result but emphasized that Germany possesses a talented young core, including Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, and the injured Lennart Karl, who are expected to lead the team moving forward.
