Twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Kerry, a resident of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court regarding the death of Ann Widdecombe. The 78-year-old politician and Reform UK figure was discovered with severe injuries at her Haytor, Devon residence on July 9.
Kerry was initially apprehended two days later. He was subsequently re-arrested on allegations involving the preparation or incitement of terrorist acts. Laurence Taylor, the UK Counter Terrorism Policing head, noted that while the inquiry is complex, investigators are not seeking other suspects. The operation, managed by Counter Terrorism Policing South East with assistance from Devon and Cornwall Police, has already generated over 800 lines of inquiry.
Frank Ferguson of the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that there is enough evidence to move forward with the case, urging the public to avoid commentary that might compromise a fair trial. Widdecombe, a former Conservative MP for Maidstone and past MEP, was widely remembered by political figures including Nigel Farage, Kemi Badenoch, and Andy Burnham for her extensive career and public service.
