Violent Clashes Leave Two Hunters Dead in Plateau State
A violent confrontation in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has resulted in the deaths of two local hunters, with a third person sustaining injuries.
The attack, attributed to suspected Fulani bandits, occurred shortly after reports emerged that Berom youths had targeted Fulani herders and stolen 84 cattle in the vicinity.
Zagazola Makama, an expert in counter-insurgency, reported that the violence unfolded around 7:00 a.m. on April 23, 2026. Responding to distress calls, troops from Sector 6 of Operation ENDURING PEACE arrived at Kum village to find the victims.
The deceased have been identified as Haruna Chiana and John Ranka, while the survivor, Markus Pam, is receiving medical treatment.
The men had traveled from the Foron District of Barkin Ladi to conduct hunting activities when they were ambushed. The victims were transported to the General Hospital in Riyom, and military personnel are currently searching for the perpetrators.
