Josh Kerr eyes further improvement after record-breaking mile

Scottish runner Josh Kerr has shattered the world mile record with a time of 3:42.66 and believes he can set an even faster pace in the future.

Josh Kerr has expressed pride in his world-record mile performance while suggesting he has the capacity to lower the time even further. The 28-year-old Scottish athlete finished in 3:42.66, surpassing the previous record held by Hicham El Guerrouj since 1999.

Kerr is the first British runner to hold this record since Steve Cram in 1985. Competing at the London Stadium before 60,000 spectators, he emphasized the historical importance of bringing the record back to the United Kingdom, citing the legacy of runners such as Roger Bannister, Sebastian Coe, and Steve Ovett. He noted that with optimal conditions, he believes he could shave additional time off his current record.

Beyond his personal success, Kerr hoped his performance would motivate a new generation of British athletes. He deliberately chose to pursue the record on home soil to encourage young runners, coaches, and families, aiming to foster talent that might challenge the mark in the future.
