Daniel Tobiloba Adegboyega, a 21-year-old Nigerian basketball player for Jacksonville State, has been taken into custody on a first-degree rape charge. The university has confirmed his suspension from the team.
Official records from Calhoun County Jail show that Adegboyega is currently held without bond awaiting a hearing. Furthermore, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a detainer against him.
Court documents allege the incident took place on Wednesday, accusing the athlete of engaging in sexual intercourse via forcible compulsion. Adegboyega, a 7-foot center, joined the university program in May. His previous collegiate experience includes stints at California Baptist and South Florida.
Throughout his career, he has appeared in 27 games. It is important to note that these charges are accusations, and the defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
