Iranian authorities extend British prisoner’s sentence by two years

A British man imprisoned in Iran on spying charges has had his sentence extended by two years for speaking to the media, according to his family.

Craig Foreman, a British national imprisoned in Iran on espionage charges, has received an additional two-year prison sentence. His son, Joe Bennett, reported that the extension was issued as retaliation for Foreman speaking with the media.

Foreman and his wife, Lindsay, were arrested in early 2025 during a global motorcycle journey and were originally given ten-year sentences, which they both contest. According to Bennett, his father was taken under the guise of meeting legal counsel, only to be sentenced by a judge without proper representation. The couple is currently in the midst of a hunger strike, with Craig on day 68 and Lindsay on day 59 of their protest. Their health has declined significantly, causing their family immense distress.

The family maintains that the couple is innocent and condemns the secret sentencing as a violation of basic human rights. The pair had traveled to Iran despite official warnings from the UK foreign office against visiting the country. This incident reflects a broader pattern of Western citizens being detained in Iran, a practice often labeled as hostage diplomacy.
