Iran Rejects Reports of Upcoming Technical Negotiations with the United States

Iran’s foreign ministry has refuted speculation regarding imminent technical talks with the U.S., while confirming progress on unfreezing assets held in Qatar.

Iranian officials have dismissed claims that technical representatives from Tehran and Washington are scheduled to meet this week. These discussions were supposedly intended to address the implementation of a Middle East peace agreement.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi clarified via state media that no such working group sessions are on the calendar for the remainder of the week. This denial follows reports from Axios and CNN, which suggested a meeting was set for Tuesday in Qatar to settle disagreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

While the White House remains silent on the matter, Qatar and Pakistan continue to facilitate ongoing mediation efforts between the two nations. The last formal engagement involving these parties occurred in Switzerland on June 21.

Separately, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed that efforts are progressing to recover frozen assets. He noted that plans are currently in motion to release $6 billion of the $12 billion in Iranian funds held in Qatar, which have been locked by American sanctions.
