Human rights attorney Inibehe Effiong has publicly questioned how a fictitious government body managed to function within state infrastructure. During an interview on Arise Television, Effiong addressed the controversy surrounding Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, and Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Adeyemi recently accused Gbajabiamila of soliciting bribes, allegations the Presidency has firmly rejected by stating that the Chief of Staff lacks the authority to issue appointments or handle such matters. The government has characterized the PFIPC as a non-existent or ‘ghost’ agency.
Effiong labeled the government’s explanation as absurd. He pointed out that it is logically inconsistent to claim the agency is a phantom entity while it simultaneously maintained an office at the Federal Secretariat and operated a bank account with the Central Bank of Nigeria. According to the lawyer, these actions necessitate formal documentation, official oversight, and high-level authorization, making the existence of such a facility impossible without government complicity.
