INEC Shifts 2027 Candidate Nomination Deadline to July 14

The Independent National Electoral Commission has granted political parties until July 14, 2026, to submit their lists of candidates for the upcoming 2027 elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially pushed back the submission deadline for 2027 Presidential and National Assembly candidate lists. Originally set for Saturday, July 11, 2026, the new cutoff time is now midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the National Commissioner and Chair of the Information and Voter Education Committee, announced this change on Sunday. The adjustment to the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities follows a formal request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council, which noted that several political parties faced challenges uploading candidate documentation in time.

The electoral body emphasized that this move aligns with legal requirements and reflects a desire to promote inclusivity. Officials have urged all political parties to utilize this extended period to successfully finalize their uploads before the updated deadline passes.
