Indian Man Kills Only Son Over Pedestal Fan Dispute On Child’s Birthday

A tragic incident unfolded in Mallewal village, India, where a 65-year-old man allegedly killed his only son during a heated argument over a pedestal fan. The altercation occurred on July 23, the night of the victim’s son’s birthday.

According to police reports, Jagpal Singh, 35, asked his father, Malkeet Singh, to turn off the fan, which lacked a safety mesh, out of concern for his young children. The disagreement escalated, and both men later retired to their rooms.

Police say Malkeet, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, attacked his sleeping son with a sickle-like tool, striking him three times on the head. Jagpal was rushed to a hospital in Nabha and later transferred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, where he died from his injuries.

SHO Gurpreet Singh confirmed a murder case had been filed based on family testimonies. Jagpal is survived by his wife and two sons, aged 5 and 2. His grieving mother lamented that her husband had “destroyed the family with his own hands.”
