A Magistrate Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has issued an arrest warrant for Abbas Mohammed, the state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The order stems from his refusal to comply with court directives regarding an ongoing assault case involving two of his subordinates.
Chief Magistrate Adebayo Dupe instructed the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, to apprehend Commandant Mohammed and bring him before the court by June 10, 2026.
This decision followed a request from the prosecution, represented by Prof. D.A. Ariyo-Osu, who argued that the commandant disregarded prior orders to produce the two accused officers, Ajayi Williams Gbolahan and Busari Babatunde.
The legal dispute originated from a criminal complaint filed by the Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch. The association alleges that Barrister Aladodo Nurudeen was subjected to unprovoked violence by NSCDC officers while performing his duties at the corps’ office on April 10, 2026.
The NBA claims that the lawyer was physically assaulted, dragged into a room, and brutalized, with the commandant allegedly witnessing the event without intervening.
Defense counsel A. Imam stated that the command has petitioned the Kwara State Chief Judge to reassign the case, citing a loss of trust in the current presiding magistrate.
Despite previous attempts to explain the absence of the accused officers, including claims that one had absconded, the court has now demanded the personal appearance of the state commandant to answer for the alleged contempt.
