ICE Takes Custody of Nigerian Convicted of Aggravated Sexual Abuse in America

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 29-year-old Nigerian national, Oluwaseun Kassim, following his conviction for aggravated sexual assault in Kankakee County, Illinois.

Kassim was taken into custody in Chicago as part of a nationwide ICE operation targeting undocumented immigrants with serious criminal backgrounds. ICE confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, noting that Kassim may face deportation proceedings.

His case is among the most severe in the recent enforcement sweep, which focused on individuals deemed threats to public safety and national security.

ICE reported that within the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s second term, the agency detained over 65,000 undocumented immigrants and made more than 66,000 arrests.

As of early June, the agency noted a sharp rise in detention numbers, with approximately 51,000 undocumented migrants in custody—marking the highest figure since September 2019.
