A House of Representatives ad hoc committee is investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) following allegations that the body lacks legal authorization. Lawmakers have officially requested the attendance of the minister of foreign affairs and the national security adviser to address concerns regarding the entity’s operations.
Dunoma Umar Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, testified that his office has no formal relationship with the group. He reported that an individual identifying as Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to lead the PFIPC, made three separate requests for the ministry to support a World Investment Summit in Nigeria between 2025 and 2026. The ministry rejected these proposals due to identified irregularities.
Official records from the ministry indicate they reached out to the Office of the National Security Adviser in October 2025 to verify the legitimacy of Prince Adeyemi. The response confirmed that the individual was not recognized by any federal government office, including those of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or the President’s Chief of Staff. Despite this, the committee expressed concern that the group still managed to host events involving international embassies.
Legislators questioned why further regulatory action was not taken after the council was deemed illegitimate. The committee chairman emphasized that the national security adviser must explain why the entity was allowed to continue diplomatic interactions after its fraudulent status was established. The investigation remains ongoing, with the minister and the security adviser expected to provide further testimony to lawmakers.
