All Progressives Congress stalwart Abdulrahman Haske has expressed worry regarding the significant barriers to school enrollment in northern Nigeria. Speaking at an International Youth Day 2026 event hosted by the Adamawa State government, Haske pointed out that millions of children in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states are currently deprived of schooling.
Citing statistics from UNICEF, Haske noted that 2.8 million children in these three states require immediate education-in-emergencies aid. Ongoing conflict and instability have led to the destruction of classrooms and the shuttering of numerous schools across the region. According to Haske, this educational crisis threatens future employability and economic prosperity.
Haske argued that while Nigeria’s youth are a vital national asset, their potential is currently being stifled by poverty, displacement, and insecurity. He urged the government and stakeholders to prioritize the reconstruction of school infrastructure and to integrate young people more effectively into decision-making roles. He emphasized that addressing these educational gaps is essential for long-term development, noting that current figures represent a stark warning that demands swift action.
