Greece recruits Billy Konstas for T20 World Cup qualification campaign

Greece has added Billy Konstas to its cricket squad for European T20 World Cup qualifiers, leveraging the Greek-Australian community while balancing the development of domestic players.

Greece is looking to improve its international cricket standing by calling up Billy Konstas, the brother of Australian Test player Sam Konstas, for their upcoming T20 World Cup qualification efforts. Billy, 24, has been named to the 14-man squad competing in Finland from August 14 to 21.

While the Hellenic Cricket Federation explores the talent within the Greek-Australian diaspora, they remain committed to developing local talent, particularly on the island of Corfu. Currently, coach Tim Dellor oversees a roster where the majority of players were born in Greece, though the squad does feature athletes based in the UK.

The team faces a difficult path to the 2028 tournament, as their qualifying group includes Germany and a Portugal side expected to feature former Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques. Although the federation has had discussions with other Australian-based players like Blake Nikitaras and Peter Hatzoglou, their involvement remains uncertain depending on future qualification stages.
