Mourinho challenges Bernardo Silva to improve fitness levels

Jose Mourinho has indicated that Bernardo Silva needs to improve his physical conditioning after returning from his vacation well below the required fitness standards.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has emphasized that recent arrival Bernardo Silva faces a demanding training schedule to return to his peak physical condition. The 31-year-old midfielder moved to the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer earlier this summer.

During his tenure at Manchester City, Silva recorded 76 goals over 460 appearances throughout nine seasons. He played a key role during the 2022-23 campaign, netting seven goals in 55 outings as the squad achieved a historic treble. In his final year with the club, he contributed three goals across 53 games as the team secured domestic cup victories.

Following his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Portugal exited in the Round of 16 against Spain, Silva returned from his break to begin training with Los Blancos. Mourinho noted that while Silva is a vital member of the squad, his current fitness is lacking after his vacation. The manager stated that Silva tends to disconnect entirely during time off, resulting in his physical performance being well below typical requirements. Consequently, the player must focus on intense training to catch up.

Silva has committed to a two-year deal with the Spanish side as he begins this new chapter of his professional football journey.
