Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has explicitly rejected the possibility of entering into negotiations with armed bandits. Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mukhtar Musa, the governor stated that his administration is committed to continuing military operations until criminals either surrender or are dealt with by the justice system.
This announcement took place during the opening of the Association of Zamfara State Indigenes secretariat in Kaduna on Sunday. Musa emphasized that the government is providing security agencies with the necessary logistics, equipment, and ammunition to ensure the state returns to peace. He stressed that residents play a vital role by sharing intelligence regarding suspicious activity, which helps authorities act decisively.
During the event, which included the distribution of food supplies like rice and vegetable oil to less privileged members, the government pledged a donation of 5 million Naira to support the association. The chairman of the group, Alhaji Garba Balarabe, highlighted that the new secretariat will function as a hub for community coordination and welfare. Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Abdulrahman Tumbido, noted that while many citizens left Zamfara due to instability, there is significant optimism that safety will eventually be restored.
