Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reached the State House of Assembly to formally submit the 2026 Appropriation Bill for legislative review and passage. This move occurs following the legislature’s ratification of the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) a fortnight ago. The MTEF acts as the essential fiscal roadmap, detailing government income forecasts and spending strategies for a three-year span, providing the groundwork for annual budgets.
Although the Governor was initially expected to deliver the budget sooner, political friction between the executive branch and lawmakers reportedly postponed the process. Certain observers have supported the Governor, noting that President Bola Tinubu previously submitted the state’s budget to the Senate during a period involving emergency measures and the appointment of Ibok-Ete Ibas as administrator. These supporters contend that Governor Fubara was not required to introduce a new budget until the expiration of the Senate-approved version later this year.
