Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a strong warning to citizens regarding an alleged scheme by the opposition party to undermine the upcoming August 15 elections. Through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor claimed that opposition agents are attempting to purchase Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and secure PIN numbers from voters in exchange for money.
The governor alleged that this strategy aims to disenfranchise voters by relocating their registration details or preventing them from casting ballots. He noted that specific local government areas with significant support for the Accord Party are being targeted. Furthermore, he highlighted reports of voters being pressured to swear oaths or provide card copies, actions he described as illegal and anti-democratic maneuvers meant to manipulate election results.
Governor Adeleke urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to intervene immediately, citing potential insider collusion within the APC. He emphasized that the voter’s card is a critical tool for democracy and encouraged the public to safeguard their rights rather than accepting financial incentives from those seeking to obstruct the voting process.
