Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared his intention to establish an independent commission to investigate recent political homicides in the region. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, on the Governor’s behalf.
Governor Adeleke expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families, emphasizing that no political aspiration justifies the loss of life. He stated that every individual killed is a loss to the entire state, regardless of their political ties.
The planned commission will begin its work the Monday following the election. Its mandate is to uncover the truth behind all reported election-related violence and identify those responsible. The governor stressed that legal action will be pursued against perpetrators, regardless of their political standing or influence.
Beyond the investigation, the state government intends to implement a support and compensation scheme for the victims’ families. The administration also plans to honor those who died, as the governor reiterated that the unity of the state remains a priority beyond the election cycle.
