Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has advocated for a robust collaboration between the government and the Church to foster a generation of disciplined and moral leaders. Speaking at the Golden Jubilee Thanksgiving Service for the Egba Anglican Diocese at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Abeokuta, the Governor highlighted the complementary roles of both institutions. While the state focuses on providing infrastructure and economic opportunities, he noted that faith-based organizations are essential for cultivating character and family values.
Abiodun emphasized that progress should not be measured solely by physical structures like roads and bridges, but also by human development. He cautioned that as technology and artificial intelligence continue to evolve, it is vital that they do not overshadow human wisdom, conscience, and morality. The Governor remains dedicated to maintaining religious harmony, noting that the peaceful coexistence of various faiths is a core strength of Ogun State.
During the event, Governor Abiodun unveiled a plaque for the new six-floor Cathedral Tower. The Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, Primate of the Anglican Communion, delivered a sermon encouraging believers to show greater dedication to their faith. Dignitaries in attendance included the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, who presented the Governor with the Distinguished Benefactor Award. The monarch praised Abiodun for his administration’s achievements in industrialization, housing, and the overall transformation of the state capital.
