Goodness Nwachukwu, the reigning champion, broke the world record to secure a seventh gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Nwachukwu delivered her top performance on her final attempt, recording a throw of 39.66 meters. This result surpassed her previous F42 world record by over three meters and earned her the championship title.
Wales athletes Funmi Oduwaiye and Bree Cronin completed the podium. Oduwaiye earned the silver medal with a 38.52-meter throw, while Cronin secured bronze with a seasonal best of 36.00 meters. Additionally, Jessica Oji added to Nigeria’s success by capturing silver in the women’s shotput with a 17.87-meter effort. Nigeria now holds the fifth position on the overall medals table, boasting 7 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
