Former Manchester United and England star Rio Ferdinand has tipped Spain to emerge victorious in the 2026 World Cup final. The title decider is scheduled for Sunday at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
While Ferdinand anticipates a Spanish win, he strongly defended Argentina against critics who dismiss them as an average squad. He described such labels as disrespectful to a team that has consistently performed well in major tournaments under the leadership of Lionel Messi.
The Spanish team, known as La Furia Roja, has dominated the competition with a disciplined approach, securing seven wins while scoring 13 goals and conceding only once. In contrast, Lionel Scaloni’s Argentine side has faced more inconsistent challenges throughout the tournament.
Ferdinand told Sky Sports that doubting the defending champions is a mistake, citing their resilience and ability to thrive under pressure. Even though he maintains that Spain holds the edge, he insists that anyone calling the current Argentina roster mediocre simply lacks sufficient knowledge of the game.
