Gombe APC Senatorial Primary Case Postponed to July 22

Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed has deferred the Gombe South APC senatorial primary lawsuit to July 22, 2026, for the submission of final written addresses.

A Federal High Court in Gombe has scheduled the continuation of the legal battle regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Gombe South for July 22, 2026. On this date, the parties involved are expected to submit their final written arguments prior to the court’s ruling.

Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed is presiding over the matter, which was initiated by Hon. Bilyaminu Babadidi. He is suing the APC, Jerry Joseph Damara, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking to invalidate the candidacy of Mr. Damara for the Gombe South senatorial seat.

During the proceedings, Mr. Babadidi brought forward four witnesses and submitted various documents as evidence. The witnesses testified that no primary election occurred at any polling or local government units, noting a complete absence of election officials and voting materials. The claimant further asserted that his formal grievance submitted to the party’s Appeal Committee was ignored.

The APC’s defense included testimony from Rabilu Musa, the chairman of the party’s National Primary Election Committee. He maintained that the primary took place throughout the state on May 18, 2026. However, upon cross-examination, Mr. Musa acknowledged that the voters’ register was never submitted to the court. With the testimony phase concluded, Justice Mohammed set the July date for the adoption of addresses.
