Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz believes facing England in the World Cup is the most straightforward match to prepare for as his squad seeks to secure a spot in the round of 32. The 73-year-old, who assumed his position in April, is leading a national side for the ninth time in his storied career.
Queiroz previously coached Iran during the 2022 tournament, where they suffered a 6-2 loss to England. Regarding that previous meeting, the veteran manager noted that he views past losses as learning opportunities rather than failures. Following an initial 1-0 victory over Panama, a win against England in Boston would propel Ghana into the knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
While England enters the contest with an impressive 4-2 win against Croatia, Queiroz maintains that historical reputations do not influence the outcome on the pitch. He emphasized that the challenge lies in managing player excitement and ensuring collective effort throughout the match. He notably declared that while England may have three lions on their jersey, his team carries the spirit of 33 million lions from Ghana.
Regarding team selection, midfielder Thomas Partey is likely to return to the lineup after missing the opener due to visa complications in Canada. Additionally, the team is awaiting a fitness assessment for goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, who sustained an injury during the previous win.
