The G100 coalition has successfully finished the preliminary stage of meetings with key political leaders and opposition parties to create a unified front for the 2027 general elections. The group held productive talks with figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Governor Seyi Makinde. The coalition also reached out to the Peoples Democratic Party, the Peoples Redemption Party, and the Social Democratic Party.
Salihu Lukman, a leader within the African Democratic Congress, noted on Arise Television that these meetings aim to foster a collaborative environment capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress. He emphasized that the group is not imposing its will but is instead creating a space for stakeholders to prioritize the nation over individual political goals.
Lukman identified personal ambition as a significant hurdle, noting that while many desire the presidency, only one candidate can hold the office. He warned that if opposition figures compete against one another, it will only benefit President Bola Tinubu and the APC, as seen in the 2023 cycle. To prevent this, the G100 is facilitating the creation of a shared policy agenda, focusing on solutions to national problems rather than merely swapping the personnel currently in power. Parties have already begun nominating representatives to refine these proposals for a larger, future summit.
