Phrank Shaibu, the spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, recently criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, arguing that scandals have become a systematic feature of the current government. In a statement released from Abuja, Shaibu compared the recurring crises to a leaky roof, suggesting that the frequency of these issues reflects fundamental weaknesses in leadership rather than isolated failures.
Shaibu specifically highlighted the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) as just the latest in a series of administrative scandals. He characterized the government’s approach as a cycle of announcing investigations with great publicity, only to allow them to fade into official silence without clear resolutions. He pointed to past issues, including the humanitarian ministry financial probe, unresolved concerns at the NNPCL, and questions regarding refinery funding, as evidence of a pattern that erodes public trust.
Furthermore, the statement addressed what Shaibu described as a selective system of justice in Nigeria. He noted that while minor officials face rapid scrutiny, accountability for those closer to the seat of power remains sluggish. He stated that true democratic integrity depends on how a government addresses controversy with honesty rather than avoidance.
Atiku has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government demanding full disclosure regarding the origin and authorization of the PFIPC. Additionally, the former Vice President urged President Tinubu to finally provide comprehensive clarity on his age, educational qualifications, and family history, issues that have remained points of contention and litigation for years. Shaibu concluded by warning that persistent questions do not simply vanish and that the government must stop treating silence as an acceptable policy response.
