FIFA has initiated disciplinary action against several members of the Argentina squad following their conduct during the 2026 World Cup final against Spain. The match, held in New York, concluded with a 1-0 victory for Spain after extra time, at which point members of the Argentine team and staff engaged in a confrontation with their opponents.

The individuals named in the investigation include Argentina players Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina, and Thiago Almada, along with team official Roberto Ayala. Spain’s Pablo Martin Paez Gavira was also noted for his involvement in the incident. These individuals face allegations ranging from assault to unsporting conduct.

Furthermore, FIFA is examining events surrounding Argentina’s 2-1 semi-final win against England. During this match, players displayed a banner stating, “Las Malvinas son Argentinas.” FIFA stated that these investigations address potential violations regarding the use of sporting events for non-sporting demonstrations, team misconduct, and discriminatory behavior. Officials are also reviewing broader issues concerning match security, including reports of objects being thrown and the use of offensive chants throughout the tournament.
