Human rights attorney Femi Falana, SAN, has criticized the Nigerian Federal Government for providing residential houses as gifts to members of the judiciary. During an appearance on Housing TV Africa on Thursday, Falana challenged the administration to cite the specific legal statute that authorizes such actions.
Falana argued that the government should extend similar housing benefits to university professors and other civil servants, emphasizing the principle of equal treatment for all citizens. He expressed disappointment upon seeing the government distribute house keys to judges, labeling the practice as both discriminatory and unlawful.
While acknowledging that judges deserve secure and comfortable housing, Falana insisted that these benefits must not be restricted to specific public officials. He warned that the government could face legal challenges regarding this policy, as he maintains that public resources should be applied fairly across all sectors of the workforce.
