Fatal Collision on Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway Claims Four Lives

A tragic road accident on the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway in Ogun State resulted in the deaths of four individuals late Monday night.

The incident, which occurred near the Ijebu-Imushin axis around 11:16 p.m., involved a high-speed Toyota Hiace bus and a stationary MAN Diesel truck owned by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the truck was being towed when the connecting chain snapped, leaving the heavy vehicle stranded on the roadway. The oncoming bus, traveling at a high rate of speed, subsequently crashed into the rear of the truck.

The FRSC spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, confirmed that all occupants of the bus—consisting of two men and two women—succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene. While rescue teams arrived within eight minutes of the report, the driver of the towing vehicle had already fled the area.

The victims’ remains have since been transported to the State Hospital mortuary in Ijebu Ode, while local police have seized the involved vehicles to facilitate an ongoing investigation.

In light of this tragedy and a separate recent fatal collision involving a truck and a tricycle in the Epe area of Lagos, Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin has issued a stern warning to the public.

He emphasized the critical importance of observing speed limits, especially during nocturnal travel, and urged operators to ensure that all towing equipment meets rigorous safety standards to prevent similar mechanical failures.
