A joint operation involving the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade and the Nigeria Police Force has led to the death of a suspected kidnapper in Edo State. The team successfully prevented a ransom payment of 1.5 million Naira and safely recovered the victim.
Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, spokesman for the 4 Brigade in Benin City, stated that the victim, 50-year-old Lucky Egbiki, was originally abducted from his farm in Okehussan, Ubiaja. Security forces initiated a rescue mission on August 6, 2026, after tracking the kidnappers to Onogholo. By using the ransom negotiation as a distraction, the troops lured the suspects into an ambush.
During the confrontation, one kidnapper was killed, while his accomplices escaped into the nearby forest, potentially suffering from gunshot injuries. The victim was found unharmed and reunited with his family following a medical checkup. Although military personnel searched the forest area on August 7 and 8, they did not locate the remaining suspects. Authorities are now urging Edo residents to continue sharing relevant information to help maintain regional security.
