7-Man Robbery Syndicate Busted in Adamawa
A 7-man syndicate allegedly involved in the theft of tricycles and motorcycles in Adamawa State has been dismantled.
In a statement released early Thursday, the Adamawa State Police Command announced that its operatives apprehended members of the syndicate, who were reportedly engaged in the theft and illegal trade of stolen tricycles and motorcycles within the Yola metropolis.
Police spokesman Sulaiman Nguroje, who signed the statement, said the arrests followed a well-coordinated intelligence operation, which also led to the recovery of two stolen tricycles and one motorcycle.
“On the 24th of June, 2025, operatives of the Command attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID), acted upon credible information and apprehended one Mohammed Alhaji, 25 years old, of Hulere Ward, Yola North LGA. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of a syndicate that specializes in the theft of tricycles and motorcycles in Yola,” the police command stated.
The statement revealed that one of the suspects, 19-year-old Jafar Babangida, was responsible for stealing two TVS tricycles (Keke-Napep) from different locations in Yola.
According to the police, “The duo conspired and sold one of the stolen tricycles to Ziyau Garba, 38 years old, of Sangere, and the second to Bawuro Ibrahim, 37 years old, of Vinikilang, who in turn sold it to one Sahabi Mohammed, 35 years old, of Vinikilang Ward all of Girei Local Government Area.
“Similarly, the same Jafar Babangida sometimes stole a Jincheng motorcycle, dismantled it, and conspired with Lukman Usman, 15 years old, of Hulere Ward, to sell the motorcycle parts to Auwal Musa, 30 years old, of Nyakore Ward, Yola North LGA.”
The police confirmed that all suspects have been arrested and have voluntarily confessed to their involvement in the organized crimes. An investigation is ongoing to facilitate further recoveries and the possible arrest of additional suspects.
