E! News To End TV Run, Will Continue As Digital-Only Brand

E! News, the iconic entertainment news program that debuted in 1991, is officially being cancelled as a linear television show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the final broadcast will air on September 25.

The decision was communicated to staff on Thursday, July 24. While new episodes will continue into next week, the show will shift to a digital-only format after its final on-air episode.

The cancellation comes as E! Network pivots to a more digitally focused strategy, aligning with shifting viewer habits that prioritize real-time content via social media and online platforms. E! News had previously gone on a two-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic before its 2022 return to the 11 p.m. time slot.

Following the show’s cancellation, some team members are expected to transition to Versant, NBCUniversal’s new media unit that oversees E!, USA Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Oxygen, and others. The digital version of E! News will continue to provide daily entertainment coverage through its website and social media, where the brand currently boasts 87 million followers.

Despite ending the flagship news program, the E! channel will continue to air a mix of original and acquired shows including Botched Presents, Honestly Cavallari, Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane, and Dirty Rotten Scandals. E! also remains known for its red carpet specials and awards show coverage, including the Critics Choice Awards.

Network insiders say the move reflects the brand’s efforts to evolve with consumer demand and focus on platforms where entertainment news audiences are most active.
