DSS releases innocent farmer after clearing him of Boko Haram ties

The DSS has cleared Nura Idris of terrorism accusations, securing his release and providing 3 million naira in compensation as part of a review into wrongful detentions.

The Department of State Services has freed Nura Idris, a farmer from Kaduna State, after a thorough probe proved he had no involvement with Boko Haram. Director-General Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi authorized his release and provided a 3 million naira grant to support his return to his agricultural livelihood.

Idris, who resides in the Soba Local Government Area, was detained in 2024 within Niger State under suspicion of terror links. A formal DSS review board determined these allegations were baseless. Following his discharge, Idris expressed gratitude for his treatment during custody, noting that the financial aid would assist his personal recovery.

This action is part of a broader DSS initiative to audit long-standing detention cases. Official sources confirm that over 30 individuals have been exonerated through this process, receiving a combined total of more than 300 million naira in compensation as the agency seeks to balance national security with the protection of civil liberties.
