Dr. Ibraheem Adekunle Reaffirms His Status as PDP Osun Central Senatorial Candidate

Dr. Ibraheem Adekunle defends his position as the legitimate PDP candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial district, challenging Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi’s claims to the ticket.

Dr. Ibraheem Adekunle has rejected assertions by Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi regarding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the Osun Central Senatorial seat, maintaining that he is the legitimate nominee. During a press gathering in Osogbo, Adekunle stated that any effort to replace his name for the 2027 elections would result in legal action.

The dispute stems from Fadeyi’s recent transition back to the PDP following a stint with the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adekunle highlighted significant inconsistencies in Fadeyi’s timeline, noting that Fadeyi allegedly secured a PDP waiver on May 8, 2026, yet participated in the APC senatorial primary ten days later on May 18. Adekunle argued that such actions are legally problematic, as one cannot hold membership in two political parties simultaneously.

Furthermore, Adekunle pointed out that the PDP had already finalized its internal selection process, including the submission of his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), by the time Fadeyi was involved in APC activities. Emphasizing that he was the sole participant in the PDP primary, Adekunle asserted that his nomination strictly follows both party regulations and the national Electoral Act.
