David Umahi Speaks on the Passing of Staff Member Mary Habila

Minister David Umahi calls for an autopsy and threatens legal action against spreaders of misinformation following the death of a staff member at his Ebonyi residence.

Minister of Works David Umahi recently addressed the death of Mary Habila, a nurse at the David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences who passed away at his Uburu, Ebonyi State property on June 27, 2026. Describing the deceased as someone he regarded as a daughter, Umahi noted that she had been part of his household for three years and that he had previously provided financial support for her ongoing medical issues.

Addressing the press, the Minister firmly denied any suspicion of foul play and expressed frustration regarding attempts to politicize the tragedy. He requested that an autopsy be performed to officially confirm the cause of death. Furthermore, Umahi stated that he has directed his legal team to initiate proceedings against those circulating misinformation online, emphasizing his intent to address cyberbullying through the judicial system.
