David Umahi maintains commitment to 2027 presidential debate with Peter Obi

Minister of Works David Umahi has reiterated his intention to run on the 2027 ballot alongside President Tinubu, following a public disagreement with Peter Obi over a proposed debate.

Minister of Works David Umahi recently addressed his previous proposal for a public debate with Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi. During a site inspection on Sunday, Umahi stated that he confirmed his participation in the 2027 election ballot to Obi. He emphasized that as long as President Bola Tinubu is running for re-election, he considers himself a participant as well.

This exchange follows Obi’s earlier dismissal of the debate challenge. The NDC candidate had argued that the Minister lacked the proper standing for such a debate, suggesting that Umahi should first secure a presidential nomination. In his rebuttal, the Minister indicated that his primary motivation is ensuring the continuity and completion of ongoing infrastructure projects. He expressed a desire for a collective victory alongside President Tinubu.
