Catholic Priest Slumps And Dies While Playing Tennis In Anambra
Panic gripped Awka, Anambra State, after Reverend Father Anthony Udogu of the Catholic Diocese of Awka suddenly slumped and died while playing lawn tennis. The tragic incident was confirmed on Tuesday in an official statement by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Charles Ndubuisi. Further details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not yet been released. The news has left many in the local Catholic community shocked and mourning the sudden loss. “With faith in the resurrection of the Lord, the Catholic Diocese of Awka announces the demise of our brother priest, Rev Fr Anthony Udogu, whose sudden death occurred in the early hours of today,” the statement read. Rev. Fr. Anais bickett Charles Ndubuisi confirmed that Fr. Anthony Udogu collapsed while playing tennis and was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, all efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Until his passing, Fr. Udogu served as the Parish Priest of St. Francis of Assisi, Awka, and also held the position of Dean of Awka Deanery II. The statement described the late priest as a deeply respected figure known for his strong leadership, unwavering pastoral commitment, and dedication to community development. The Catholic Diocese of Awka extended heartfelt condolences to his family, parishioners, and all who are grieving his loss, adding that funeral arrangements will be announced in due time. “May the soul of Rev Fr Anthony Nnaemeka Udogu rest in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement concluded.
