The explosion reportedly caused severe burns to all three family members — father, mother, and their young daughter. Despite being rushed to the hospital, all three succumbed to their injuries days later.
The tragic incident has drawn condolences from community members and safety advocates, who are calling for increased public awareness about proper gas handling and installation practices to prevent future accidents.
According to Akpoyibo, the tragedy underscores the dangers of using multiple gas cylinders in enclosed spaces without proper safety measures. He stressed that the absence of essential equipment like gas leak detectors and fire extinguishers contributed significantly to the severity of the explosion.
He urged families to adopt strict safety protocols, including:
- Avoiding the use of more than one gas cylinder in confined areas
- Ensuring good ventilation when operating gas appliances
- Extinguishing all open flames before connecting or disconnecting gas cylinders
Akpoyibo also advocated for increased community education on gas safety to help prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
