Castres sign Hamish Watson to cover for injured Papali’i

Scottish flanker Hamish Watson has signed a one-year contract with Castres to replace the injured Dalton Papali’i.

Scottish international flanker Hamish Watson has joined French side Castres following his departure from Edinburgh. The Top 14 team reached out to the 34-year-old after Dalton Papali’i sustained a long-term Achilles injury that required surgery.

Watson, who spent the final part of the previous season on loan at Leicester Tigers, accepted a one-year deal with the French club. He noted that the decision had to be made promptly following the approach from Castres. Expressing his excitement, Watson stated that playing in France represents a wonderful challenge. He highlighted his familiarity with the history of Scottish players at the club and confirmed he is physically prepared to contribute immediately.

A veteran of 59 international caps for Scotland, Watson previously played for Edinburgh for over a decade, accumulating nearly 160 appearances. Castres, who placed 10th in their domestic league last season, praised the arrival of a player noted for his high work rate and proficiency at the breakdown, citing his decade of experience at the elite level of the sport.
