Dewi Lake named Wales captain for upcoming summer Tests

Hooker Dewi Lake will captain Wales for the summer internationals, edging out flanker Jac Morgan for the leadership role under coach Steve Tandy.

Hooker Dewi Lake has been selected to lead Wales as captain for the upcoming summer international series, chosen over flanker Jac Morgan. Lake previously commanded the team throughout the 2025 autumn series and the 2026 Six Nations while Morgan dealt with injury setbacks.

Coach Steve Tandy has decided to retain the hooker as his main leader for the summer campaign, which includes matches against Fiji, Argentina, and South Africa as part of the Nations Championship. Both Lake and Morgan, who are set to join Gloucester, are part of the squad for the opening non-cap fixture against the Barbarians at Allianz Stadium.

Although players at English and French clubs remain unavailable due to international window regulations, key figures like Aaron Wainwright are expected to participate. Meanwhile, the Wales women’s team will have Alex Callender returning as captain for their London match against the Barbarians, as the side prepares for the upcoming WXV Global Series.
