Richard Montgomery, the departing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, recently noted that President Bola Tinubu’s current economic restructuring is essential for the nation’s future stability. During a farewell meeting at the Revenue House in Abuja, Montgomery met with the Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji.
While acknowledging that factors like currency devaluation and inflation have created immediate hardships for citizens, the envoy emphasized that these changes are necessary to rejuvenate the national economy. He noted that he continues to update the UK leadership on these developments, as the British government maintains a keen interest in Nigerian fiscal management.
The diplomat lauded the efforts of the government’s economic team, describing their work under the guidance of figures like Dr. Adedeji as exceptional. In return, Dr. Adedeji praised Montgomery for his significant contributions, specifically highlighting the technical assistance and personal support the High Commissioner provided during his tenure, which helped influence the country’s recent reform agenda.
