Brighton manager Dario Vidosic has lauded Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie after she secured a top-five finish in the Women’s Yashin Trophy rankings at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris.

The 24-year-old, who joined Brighton in July from Paris FC, was shortlisted for the prestigious award following standout performances for both club and country. Nnadozie played a pivotal role in helping Nigeria’s Super Falcons clinch a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, keeping four consecutive clean sheets and earning the Best Goalkeeper award. She also guided Paris FC to their first Coupe de France victory in 20 years before making her switch to the Women’s Super League.

Although Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton took home the 2025 Yashin Trophy, Nnadozie’s fourth-place finish marked a milestone for African women’s football, as she became the first female goalkeeper from the continent to be recognised on the Ballon d’Or stage.

Vidosic praised her achievement, saying:

“As a club, squad, and everyone affiliated with the women’s program at Brighton, we are all really proud of her. It’s a fantastic achievement to be recognised for one of the most prestigious awards in the footballing world.”

The coach also noted the broader impact of Nnadozie’s rise, pointing to her teammate Michelle Agyemang’s nomination for the Women’s Kopa Trophy and celebrating both players’ international success over the summer.

Reflecting on Nnadozie’s journey, Vidosic added:

“I’m sure when she was growing up and playing football in the back garden, she probably dreamt of these moments. For her to achieve this nomination is incredible. She should be proud.”

Now Brighton’s first-choice goalkeeper, Nnadozie continues to enhance her reputation, ranking third in the Women’s Super League with 14 saves in just three matches this season.
